Bart-Jan trained in the Netherlands and spent a year in Brisbane with Dr Gupta and Dr Cutbush in 2020. Following this, he became a consultant orthopedic surgeon at the Medisch Spectrum Twente in Enschede, the Netherlands with the main interest in the shoulder. Upon return, he finished his Ph.D. thesis in 2022 on surgical techniques on 'the ageing shoulder'.
